PIAC reconstitutes committee, elects Prof Peter Quartey as Chair

by Business Post

The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has elected economist and development finance expert, Professor Peter Quartey, as its new Chair for a one-year term, effective November 3, 2026.

Professor Quartey, who represents the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) on the committee, was elected at a meeting of PIAC members held on November 3. He takes over from Richard Ellimah, whose tenure as Chair ended in October 2026.

The election follows the swearing-in of five new members to the committee by the Ministry of Finance as part of a broader reconstitution of PIAC’s membership. Professor Quartey was also sworn in after being renominated by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences to serve an additional two-year term on the committee.

At the same meeting, Samuel Bekoe, the member representing think tanks, was elected Vice Chair for a one-year term.

He has also held several senior academic and board-level positions.

PIAC’s membership has also been reconstituted following the expiration of the tenure of several members.

The newly sworn-in members are Mama Agumekosua V, representing the Queen Mothers Association of Ghana; Dr Edmund Adinkra-Darko of the Trades Union Congress (TUC); Alhaji Abdul Majeed Saeed representing Muslim groups; Rev Johoiada Godwin Amuzu representing Christian groups; Daniel Kissi from the Association of Ghana Industries and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Kyei Yamoah, representing civil society and community-based organisations.

They were sworn into office on November 3 by the Ministry of Finance’s Director of Legal, Evelyn Amerley Nuno-Amarteifio.

PIAC congratulated Professor Quartey and Mr Bekoe on their election and expressed confidence in their leadership.

The committee also welcomed its newly inducted members and said it looked forward to their contributions towards strengthening its oversight mandate.

Established under Section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act, PIAC is mandated to monitor and evaluate compliance with the management and utilisation of Ghana’s petroleum revenues.
