The government has secured a €323 million financing package for the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project following discussions between Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle.

According to Dr Forson, the project is expected to tackle long-standing water supply challenges in Tamale, Yendi and Damongo while strengthening sanitation infrastructure across the beneficiary communities.

The financing package includes a €68 million grant from the European Commission, a €30 million grant from Invest International, a development financing initiative of the Dutch government, and a €225 million highly concessional facility from the European Investment Bank.

Dr Forson described discussions with the EIB Vice-President as productive, underscoring the importance of the funding arrangement in supporting the government’s efforts to improve access to safe water and sanitation services in Northern Ghana.
