MTN Ghana has been named the 2026 Africa PMO of the Year by the Project Management Institute (PMI), securing the continental title for a second consecutive year and earning a place among five finalists for the 2026 World PMO of the Year Award.
The recognition follows MTN Ghana’s maiden Africa PMO of the Year win in 2025 and highlights the company’s continued progress in project, programme and portfolio management across its operations.
According to the company, the award reflects the growing maturity of its project and transformation capabilities and its efforts to convert strategic objectives into measurable business outcomes and value for stakeholders.
Commenting on the achievement, Chief Transformation Officer of MTN Ghana, William Tetteh, described the recognition as a testament to the work of employees across the business.
“Being named Africa PMO of the Year for the second consecutive year is a significant recognition of the work our people continue to do across MTN Ghana. It reflects the strength of our governance, the capability of our project professionals and the collaboration that enables us to translate strategic ambition into tangible outcomes for our customers, our business and Ghana,” he said.
He added that project management within the organisation is focused on delivering value beyond project completion.
“For us, project management is ultimately about value creation. The true measure of success is not only whether projects are delivered, but whether they improve customer experience, strengthen business performance, enhance operational efficiency and contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve,” Tetteh noted.
MTN Ghana said the award recognises the contributions of teams across the business, including its FinTech unit, project sponsors, business owners, project professionals, cross-functional teams and delivery partners involved in executing key initiatives.
The company noted that its transformation journey has been driven by a deliberate strategy to strengthen project, programme and portfolio management capabilities. This has seen the Transformation Division evolve from a traditional project oversight function into a strategic execution and value-delivery unit.
According to MTN Ghana, the approach has enhanced portfolio governance, project prioritisation, benefits realisation, delivery discipline and local capability development, enabling the successful implementation of increasingly complex technology and transformation projects.
The latest recognition adds to a growing list of project management accolades for the telecommunications operator. Earlier in 2026, MTN Ghana received PMI’s Excellence Award for PMO of the Year, becoming the first organisation in Africa to achieve the distinction.
The company also secured six awards at the 2026 National Project Management Conference and Project Management Excellence Awards organised by the PMI Ghana Chapter, in areas including project delivery, telecommunications infrastructure, technology development, project governance and leadership.
MTN Ghana said these achievements, together with its 2024 Excellence Distinction for Diversity and Inclusion Practices and successive Africa PMO of the Year awards, reinforce its standing as a benchmark for project management excellence in Ghana and across the continent.
As the 2026 Africa PMO of the Year, MTN Ghana will now represent the continent in the final stage of the World PMO of the Year Awards, where it will compete against four other organisations for PMI’s highest recognition in project management office excellence.
The global recognition comes as MTN Ghana marks 30 years of operations in the country, underscoring the role of project execution, technology investment and local talent development in supporting the company’s growth and contribution to Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
Looking ahead, the company said it will continue to strengthen execution capabilities, invest in local talent and leverage technology and connectivity to create sustainable value for customers, communities and the broader economy.
