The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has used this year’s Fetu Afahye celebrations in Cape Coast to educate the public on petroleum product safety, consumer rights and the Authority’s enquiry channels.
Led by its Chief Executive, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, the NPA joined the chiefs and people of Oguaaman for the annual festival, using the occasion to engage directly with consumers and promote awareness of safety and consumer protection issues in the downstream petroleum sector.
Officials of the Authority interacted with members of the public during the celebrations, sharing information on the safe handling and use of petroleum products, as well as the avenues available to consumers seeking to make complaints or enquiries.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Tameklo said the NPA was pleased to participate in a celebration that brings together people from diverse backgrounds while showcasing the rich culture and traditions of the people of Oguaaman.
He said stakeholder satisfaction remained an important part of the Authority’s mandate as the regulator of Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
“Fetu Afahye is an important celebration for the people of Oguaaman and Ghana as a whole. The Orange Friday Float, in particular, brings together people from different backgrounds in a very vibrant atmosphere. And these people are consumers of petroleum products in one form or another,” he said.

According to him, the Authority’s participation in the festival went beyond joining in the festivities, as it also provided an opportunity to engage directly with the people it serves.
“For us at the NPA, being here is not only about joining the celebration, but also about connecting with the people we serve and using the opportunity to share important messages on petroleum safety and consumer protection,” Mr. Tameklo added.
The engagement forms part of the NPA’s broader efforts to strengthen public awareness and protect the interests of consumers in the petroleum sector.
The Authority has identified sustained public education, effective complaint management, consumer and market intelligence, and continuous stakeholder engagement as key components of its consumer protection mandate.
By taking its public education activities to major cultural and community events, the NPA is seeking to bring regulatory and safety information closer to consumers and improve public understanding of their rights and responsibilities.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe, efficient and consumer-focused downstream petroleum sector through continued engagement with the public and other stakeholders across the country.
