Employees of GCB Bank PLC from the Kade, Akim Oda and Asamankese branches have provided essential medical equipment to the Atobriso CHPS Compound in the Kwaebibirem Municipality, helping to strengthen diagnostic services and improve maternal and child healthcare delivery within the community.
The intervention forms part of 95 community projects being implemented nationwide under GCB Bank’s 2026 Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP), an employee-led initiative aimed at positively impacting one million Ghanaians.
The project was undertaken after employees identified the Atobriso CHPS Compound as a healthcare facility facing challenges due to limited access to basic diagnostic and maternal care equipment. Through contributions from branch employees and support from Head Office, the team mobilised resources to address some of the facility’s most pressing needs.
The equipment provided included adult and infant weighing scales, manual and digital blood pressure monitors, a handheld fetal Doppler, thermometers, an autoclave, an instrument trolley, an electric suction machine, an oxygen cylinder with its regulator and flow meter, adult and neonatal Ambu bags, a baby cot, a sterile delivery set, cord clamps, and a glucometer with test strips.
The new equipment is expected to enhance the facility’s capacity to perform routine assessments, support maternal and newborn care, and respond more effectively to patients requiring urgent attention. By improving access to essential diagnostic and treatment tools, the intervention is also expected to reduce the need for certain referrals to the Kade Government Hospital, enabling residents of Atobriso and neighbouring communities to access quality healthcare closer to home.
Speaking on the broader impact of the Staff Community Impact Programme, Sadat Laminu, Head of Corporate Affairs at GCB Bank, said SCIP empowers employees to play an active role in addressing challenges affecting the communities in which they live and work.
“Our employees have a unique understanding of the needs within their communities, and SCIP gives them the opportunity to respond in practical and meaningful ways. This approach allows our CSR efforts to be guided by real community priorities while enabling our people to contribute directly to creating positive social impact beyond our core banking activities,” he said.
For the Koforidua Zone team, the condition of the Atobriso CHPS Compound highlighted the importance of investing in frontline healthcare facilities that serve as the first point of care for many residents. Mary Rita Zoka, Koforidua Zonal Manager of GCB Bank, said the team intentionally selected equipment that would support healthcare workers in their daily efforts to care for patients.
“We identified a facility that was serving a vital role within the community but lacked some of the basic equipment needed to provide effective diagnostic and maternal healthcare services. Our goal was to provide equipment that healthcare workers could use every day to improve patient care. We hope this support will strengthen the facility’s capacity, improve healthcare outcomes and make it easier for people to access essential services within their own community,” she said.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the health authorities, Vida Efua Afful, Municipal Director of Health Services, West Akim, expressed appreciation for the support and noted that the items would enhance the facility’s ability to deliver essential healthcare services to community members.
The equipment is expected to provide lasting benefits to Atobriso and surrounding communities by supporting healthcare workers in delivering quality care, particularly for mothers, newborns and vulnerable patients. The intervention also reflects GCB employees’ commitment to advancing health and wellbeing through practical, community-focused initiatives under SCIP.
The Atobriso CHPS Compound project is the 17th of 95 SCIP projects being implemented by GCB Bank employees across Ghana.

The Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP) is GCB Bank’s nationwide employee-led community impact initiative, bringing together more than 4,500 employees across 95 groups to undertake 95 community projects across Ghana from August to September 2026.
The projects address needs across healthcare, education, water and sanitation, social protection, environmental sustainability, youth development, community safety and infrastructure, with the collective interventions aimed at positively impacting up to one million lives.
Through SCIP, GCB employees contribute their time, skills, resources and collective effort to support communities and strengthen a culture of volunteerism across the Bank.
