GRA assures service continuity as heavy rains disrupt Accra

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has assured businesses of uninterrupted services despite ongoing heavy rains that are disrupting transport and commercial activity across Accra and other parts of the country.

In a statement issued Monday, the Authority acknowledged that the adverse weather conditions could delay the movement of goods, affect business operations, and place additional pressure on firms working to meet regulatory and customer obligations.

The Commissioner-General, Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, said the GRA had activated measures to sustain operations across key service points, including ports, border posts and Taxpayer Service Centres (TSCs), to ensure the continued delivery of Customs and Domestic Tax services.

“The objective is to keep legitimate trade moving, minimise avoidable disruptions and continue serving taxpayers as efficiently as possible,” the statement said.

The Authority urged businesses to plan ahead and take advantage of its digital platforms to reduce the need for physical interactions. It also advised stakeholders to anticipate possible transportation delays and prioritise employee safety as rainfall intensifies.

“No business activity is more important than protecting lives,” the GRA emphasised.

Parts of Accra have experienced flooding and traffic congestion following sustained downpours in recent days, raising concerns among businesses over supply chain disruptions and operational delays.

Despite the challenges, the GRA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining service continuity and safeguarding revenue mobilisation critical to national development.

It also called on the public to follow guidance from relevant emergency and weather authorities as the rainy conditions persist.
