GhIPSS announces new executive leadership appointments

The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) has announced a series of executive leadership appointments aimed at strengthening its management capacity and positioning the company to deliver on its expanding mandate within Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem.

The appointments, according to the company, form part of a deliberate strategy to enhance operational efficiency, drive innovation and support GhIPSS’ next phase of growth as the country’s national payments infrastructure provider.

The newly appointed executives bring decades of combined experience across finance, payments, operations and business development within the financial services industry.

Eunice Amewu Nyadu (FCCA, UK) has been appointed Chief Finance Officer, with oversight responsibility for Finance and Strategy. She is a seasoned finance and strategy executive with extensive experience in building and scaling financial infrastructure platforms.

Ms Nyadu previously served as the first Head of Finance at GhIPSS, where she led the design and implementation of the company’s finance and control architecture, laying the foundation for the growth of Ghana’s interoperable payments ecosystem.

In her current role, she is expected to lead GhIPSS’ financial and strategic transformation agenda, focusing on investment, innovation and ecosystem expansion across banks, fintechs and digital financial services providers.

Akosua Blay has been confirmed as Chief Business Officer, following her tenure as Acting General Manager for Project and Business Development. She has over 30 years of professional experience, including 18 years in the payment systems sector, with strengths in business development, stakeholder engagement and delivery of national payment solutions. She is a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana.

As Chief Business Officer, she will be responsible for overseeing business development initiatives and project delivery.

Juliet Ackah-Nyamike has been appointed Chief Operations Officer, with responsibility for the Operations Department. She brings over two decades of leadership experience in digital payments, transactional banking and card systems operations. Her expertise includes payment operations, settlement management and digital banking service delivery.

Mary Dei Sarpong has been appointed Chief Shared Services Officer, heading the Shared Services portfolio. Prior to this appointment, she served as Head of the Partnerships and Bulk Payments Unit.

With more than 20 years’ experience in financial services, she has played key roles in advancing bulk payments, clearing operations, customer support and financial inclusion initiatives through the e-zwich platform. In her new role, she will oversee administration and facilities management.

Commenting on the appointments, Chief Executive Officer of GhIPSS, Clara Arthur, said the move reflects the organisation’s commitment to strengthening its leadership structure to support its strategic priorities.

“I am happy to welcome Eunice, Akosua, Juliet and Mary to the GhIPSS Executive Management Team.

Their appointments reflect a deliberate step towards strengthening our leadership structure to enable us achieve our strategic priorities and position GhIPSS for the next phase of the company’s growth,” she said.

She expressed confidence that the new executive team would help the organisation drive innovation, enhance operational excellence and deliver greater value to stakeholders.

GhIPSS plays a central role in Ghana’s digital payments transformation, providing interoperable payment infrastructure that enables seamless transactions across banks, mobile money operators and other financial service providers.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana and was incorporated in May 2007.

Its mandate is to implement and manage interoperable payment system infrastructures for banks and non-bank financial institutions in Ghana.

In line with this mandate, GhIPSS currently manages critical national payment systems including the e-zwich biometric smart card system, Cheque Codeline Clearing (CCC), Ghana Automated Clearing House (ACH), gh-link national switching system, GhIPSS Instant Pay (GIP), Mobile Money Interoperability (MMI) and GhanaPay, in partnership with the Ghana Association of Banks.

GhIPSS’ payment infrastructure is used by all financial service providers in Ghana.
