The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has intensified efforts to mobilise investment into Northern Ghana with a 13-day regional roadshow aimed at connecting investors with investment-ready projects identified across five northern regions.
The roadshow, scheduled from October 11 to 23, 2026, is being held under the theme, “Driving Local Investment: Unlocking Regional Potential, Mapping Opportunities, and Mobilising Growth in the Northern, North-East, Upper East, Upper West and Savanna Regions.”
The initiative follows the implementation of GIPA’s flagship Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), launched in July 2025, which has identified more than 600 investment-ready projects nationwide.
It also forms part of preparations for the Invest Ghana Summit (IGS), slated for November 16 and 17, 2026, where opportunities from all regions of the country will be presented to domestic and international investors.
According to GIPA, 128 of the more than 600 investment project profiles identified nationwide originated from the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West regions, underscoring the growing importance of Northern Ghana in the country’s investment landscape.
The Upper West Region recorded the highest number of investment opportunities with 45 project profiles, followed by the Northern Region with 38. Savannah Region accounted for 19 projects, Upper East Region 16 and North East Region 10.
The identified opportunities cut across agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, mining, renewable energy, logistics and trade.
GIPA data covering the period from 1994 to June 2026 indicate that the five northern regions have collectively attracted 100 registered investment projects with an estimated foreign direct investment (FDI) value of US$1.91 billion.
Most of these investments have been concentrated in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
The Northern Region accounted for the largest share with 68 projects, followed by the Upper East Region with 14. The North East, Upper West and Savannah regions registered seven, six and five projects respectively.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, Abdul Razak Baba, is leading the investment roadshow and is expected to engage regional ministers, business leaders and traditional authorities across the five regions.
As part of the programme, he will pay courtesy calls on several traditional leaders, including the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu Yoo-Naa; the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II; the Overlord of the Wa Traditional Area, Wa Naa Rahid Fuseini Pelpuo; and the Overlord of the Savanna Region, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.
The delegation will also tour selected investment sites and operating businesses, including Savannah Diamond Cement at Buipe and Baba Tree Company Limited in Wa, to assess existing investments and explore opportunities for expansion and collaboration.
Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, Simon Madjie, said Northern Ghana possesses significant potential in commercial agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, mining, logistics and cross-border trade.
He noted that these sectors have the capacity to drive industrialisation and improve livelihoods across the region.
“Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity. Through this roadshow, we are taking investment opportunities directly to the market, building strategic partnerships and creating pathways for investors to take part in the region’s transformation,” he said.
Mr. Madjie added that GIPA’s approach of linking project identification with investor engagement is intended to accelerate investment flows into underserved regions and promote more balanced and inclusive economic growth nationwide.
GIPA believes that with 128 investment project profiles identified, increasing investor confidence and stronger collaboration among government, traditional authorities and the private sector, Northern Ghana is emerging as one of the country’s most attractive investment destinations.
The Authority says the roadshow is designed to convert identified opportunities into viable enterprises, partnerships and jobs while ensuring that investment-led growth reaches all parts of the country.
The programme is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana and supported by the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Free Zones Authority, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and the Regional Coordinating Councils of the five northern regions.
