A delegation from the ECOWAS Commission has visited Ghana to understudy the efficient manner that the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) regulates the downstream petroleum industry.
The team comprises regulators and institutions responsible for managing downstream sectors in the sub region.
The three-day study tour provides a platform for ECOWAS Member States to exchange experiences, share best practices, and deepen cooperation on the implementation of harmonized fuel quality standards. The engagement is expected to strengthen regional capacity and accelerate progress.
Welcoming the team at the NPA on Monday, the Chief Executive of NPA, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., highlighted Ghana’s fuel quality assurance framework as a valuable reference for the region while stressing that each Member State should adapt best practices to its unique national context.
He further underscored the importance of collaboration, peer learning, and sustained partnerships in building a more integrated, resilient, and efficient regional petroleum market.
In his response, the Acting Director of Energy and Mines at the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Arkadius Koumoine, described harmonized fuel quality standards as critical to protecting public health, preserving the environment, enhancing energy security, and combating illicit fuel trade.
