The Bank of Ghana (BoG) will host Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), on 4 and 5 November 2026 as part of her official visit to Ghana.
During her stay, Queen Máxima is expected to hold bilateral discussions with the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, to assess Ghana’s progress in financial inclusion and digital finance.
The discussions will also focus on policy and regulatory priorities aimed at improving the financial health of households, workers and small businesses across the country.
As part of the visit, the Bank of Ghana and Queen Máxima will jointly host a Financial Health Roundtable, bringing together senior executives from banks, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, insurance companies, pension institutions, regulators and development partners.
The roundtable will explore key issues including the measurement of financial health in Ghana, innovations in savings products, responsible lending, insurance, pensions and investments.
Participants will also examine the role of employers in supporting workers’ financial wellbeing and discuss opportunities for coordinated action across the financial sector.
The visit follows engagements between Queen Máxima, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Governor Asiama during the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, where financial health was identified as a critical element in strengthening economic resilience and promoting inclusive growth.
According to the World Bank’s Global Findex Database 2025, Ghana has emerged as one of Africa’s leading digital financial inclusion success stories, with 81 per cent of adults owning a financial account.
The country has also developed a robust digital payments infrastructure and a growing fintech ecosystem.
The Bank of Ghana said strengthening financial health represents the next phase of the country’s financial inclusion agenda, building on gains made in expanding access to formal financial services.
The central bank reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and resilient financial system that supports the financial wellbeing of Ghanaians while contributing to broader economic growth.
