The Technical Advisor to the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Elsie Appau-Klu Esq, has urged Ghanaians to honour their tax obligations, stressing that increased tax compliance is essential to financing infrastructure and accelerating national development.
Speaking during President John Dramani Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana Tour” in the Volta Region, Madam Appau-Klu said tax revenue remains the government’s primary source of funding for roads, schools, hospitals, water systems and other essential public services.
“Every pesewa counts when it turns into projects that change lives,” she said, noting that citizens’ tax contributions play a direct role in improving living standards and supporting national development.
She described tax payment as both a civic responsibility and a legal obligation, adding that sustained voluntary compliance would enable government to deliver critical infrastructure and maintain essential services, including security and public utilities.
The appeal comes as the GRA intensifies efforts to improve voluntary tax compliance through a series of public education initiatives aimed at broadening the tax base and boosting domestic revenue mobilisation.
Madam Appau-Klu expressed confidence that the Authority’s ambitious GH¢230.13 billion revenue target for 2026 is achievable if taxpayers comply with their obligations and work collaboratively with the GRA.
The Resetting Ghana Tour is a nationwide public engagement initiative through which President Mahama visits all 16 regions to interact with citizens, inspect development projects and assess the implementation of government programmes.
