GNPC Explorco initiates process for Volta Basin exploration

by Business Post

GNPC Explorco Limited has issued a scoping notice for a proposed onshore exploratory drilling project in the GH-VB-01 block within the Volta Basin as part of efforts to evaluate Ghana’s untapped onshore hydrocarbon potential.

The proposed project forms part of broader initiatives by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation to expand the country’s energy resource base by assessing the viability of possible oil and gas reserves within the basin.

According to the company, the scoping exercise represents a key stage in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, aimed at identifying potential environmental and social impacts that may arise from the planned exploratory drilling activities.

As part of the process, stakeholders and members of the public have been invited to submit comments, concerns and insights regarding the potential environmental implications of the proposed project.

The company noted that public participation remains critical to ensuring that all environmental and regulatory considerations are thoroughly addressed before drilling activities commence.

GNPC Explorco emphasised that the initiative is being undertaken in line with established environmental assessment procedures and reflects ongoing efforts to responsibly evaluate Ghana’s onshore hydrocarbon prospects while balancing environmental protection with energy sector development.
