MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL) has opened applications for the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide innovation programme designed to identify, nurture and accelerate Ghana’s next generation of fintech innovators.
The initiative, in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other ecosystem stakeholders, seeks to support students, developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators with ideas capable of expanding financial inclusion and addressing challenges within Ghana’s digital financial services sector.
Applications are open until September 30, 2026, and successful participants will have the opportunity to compete for a support package that includes cash awards of up to GH¢100,000, mentorship, incubation support, industry exposure and participation in a national demo day.
The programme is built around the theme, “Build with MoMo”, with the tagline “Build the Next Wave of Fintech.”
According to MMFL, the initiative aims to provide innovators with access to industry expertise, technology tools and strategic networks required to transform ideas into commercially viable solutions.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, Shaibu Haruna, described the programme as an important step toward strengthening Ghana’s fintech talent pipeline while creating opportunities for innovators to develop solutions with practical, real-world impact.
He noted that the lab will bring together regulators, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology partners, investors, academia and innovation hubs to promote responsible innovation and scalable digital financial solutions.
Also addressing participants, Mr. Owureku Asare, Head of the FinTech and Innovation Office at the Bank of Ghana, highlighted the importance of industry collaboration and regulatory engagement in building a trusted and inclusive digital financial ecosystem.
The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, challenged local innovators to leverage the platform to build competitive homegrown fintech solutions for both the African and global markets.
According to the minister, Ghana possesses the talent, creativity and entrepreneurial capacity required to shape its own digital future and reduce dependence on imported technology solutions.
The MoMo Fintech Lab will focus on four key innovation tracks: Everyday Payments and Financial Access; Business and Merchant Growth Tools; Trust, Security and Digital Identity; and Future Finance and Connected Ecosystems.
Interested applicants can submit entries through the MoMo App by completing an application form and providing details of their proposed fintech solution. Applications are free and open to both individuals and teams.
The final 12 shortlisted entrants will receive support through boot camps, hackathons, mentorship programmes and incubation initiatives before pitching their solutions to industry stakeholders during a National Demo Day.
MMFL said the programme forms part of broader efforts to foster innovation, support entrepreneurs and strengthen Ghana’s growing digital economy.
The initiative is supported by a number of ecosystem partners and sponsors, including Hubtel, APPSN Mobile, Zenith Bank, Korba, Blue Penguin and Jumo, among others.
