GCB Bank’s trade expertise earns national recognition

by Business Post

GCB Bank, Ghana’s number one bank has been appointed to play a leading role in Ghana’s preparations for some of the world’s biggest international trade and investment exhibitions, in a move that underscores growing confidence in the Bank’s expertise in trade facilitation and international business development.

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has appointed GCB Bank PLC to the National Planning Committee and several technical sub-committees overseeing Ghana’s participation in the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2026, one of the world’s premier trade and investment platforms.

As part of the appointment, the Bank will chair the Budget and Fundraising Committee, co-chair the Marketing and Publicity Committee, and serve as a member of the Business and Investment Committee.

The Ministry cited GCB Bank’s track record in Ghana-China trade facilitation, exporter development, stakeholder engagement and support for previous national trade initiatives as key reasons for the appointment.

In a related development, GCB Bank has nominated Ms. Aurelia Baaba Ofori Odame, Head of the Bank’s State-Owned Enterprises and Afro-Asia Banking Department, to represent the Bank on the National Planning Committee for Ghana’s participation in the China International Import Expo 2026, Specialized World Expo 2027 in Belgrade, Serbia, and the Green X Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan.

The appointment places the Bank at the centre of Ghana’s efforts to showcase its investment opportunities, strengthen bilateral trade partnerships and create new export markets through global exhibitions that attract governments, businesses and investors from around the world.

Commenting on the appointments, Ms. Aurelia Baaba Ofori Odame said they reflect the Bank’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ghana’s international trade ambitions.

“We are honoured by the confidence the Ministry has reposed in GCB Bank. These appointments affirm our commitment to facilitating cross-border trade and creating opportunities for Ghanaian businesses to access international markets. Through our specialised Afro-Asia Banking Department, we have consistently worked to bridge businesses with strategic markets, particularly in Asia, and we look forward to contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s successful participation in these global platforms.”

She noted that international exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo and the World Expo provide unique opportunities for Ghanaian businesses to connect with buyers, investors and strategic partners while enhancing the country’s global trade competitiveness.

GCB Bank has in recent years strengthened its support for international trade through its Africa and Asia Corridor strategy, providing tailored financial solutions, facilitating business linkages and supporting exporters seeking access to regional and international markets.

The latest appointments further reinforce the Bank’s role as a strategic partner in advancing Ghana’s trade and investment agenda while supporting national efforts to expand exports, attract investment and deepen economic cooperation with key global markets.
