The Ghana Chamber of Mines has opened nominations for the 12th edition of the Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA), calling on mining companies, contractors, service providers and industry professionals to submit entries highlighting outstanding contributions made to the sector during the 2025 reporting year.
The annual awards scheme, now in its twelfth year, seeks to recognise excellence across key areas of the mining industry, including innovation, occupational safety, environmental stewardship, local content development, community engagement and responsible mining practices.
Launching the awards in Accra on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, described the GMIA as one of the industry’s most rigorous and transparent recognition platforms. He urged prospective entrants to submit evidence-based nominations that clearly demonstrate measurable impact, stressing that only verifiable submissions that satisfy the prescribed criteria would be considered.
According to the Chamber, all entries will undergo assessment by an independent multi-stakeholder Awards Board, with the final results subject to external validation to ensure credibility and fairness.
A notable feature of this year’s awards is the introduction of an online nominations portal, which will operate alongside traditional downloadable nomination forms. The Chamber said the digital platform is intended to simplify the submission process and improve the experience for participants.
The 2026 edition comprises 14 public nomination categories, while several technical awards — including Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Local Content and Exploration — will be determined using verified data from regulatory bodies such as the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority.
To qualify, nominees must submit entries based on activities undertaken during the 2025 reporting year and provide clear, verifiable evidence that meets the relevant assessment requirements.
The Chamber announced that nominations open on July 15, 2026, and will close on August 14, 2026. Shortlisted nominees are expected to be announced in early November, while winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony scheduled for November 27, 2026.
The Chamber encouraged organisations and individuals across the mining value chain to participate in the awards and showcase achievements that support a safer, more responsible and sustainable mining industry in Ghana.
