The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the deadline for filing second-quarter Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Personal Income Tax (PIT) and May 2026 Value Added Tax (VAT), National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and Communications Service Tax (CST) returns to Monday, July 6, 2026, following severe flooding caused by recent heavy rains in Accra and surrounding areas.
The extension, approved by the Commissioner-General, is intended to provide relief to taxpayers and businesses whose operations have been disrupted by the flooding.
Under Ghana’s tax calendar, the affected returns were originally due for filing on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, being the last working day of the month following the taxable period.
In a statement issued on July 1, the GRA said taxpayers who submit their returns by the new deadline will not incur late filing penalties for the period.
“Taxpayers who file by Monday, July 6, 2026, will not be liable for late filing penalties for this filing period. Normal penalties will apply to returns made after the extended deadline,” the Authority stated.
The tax administrator urged taxpayers to take advantage of its digital platforms, including the Taxpayer’s Portal, to submit their returns and reduce the need for travel amid the challenging conditions created by the floods.
It also advised taxpayers facing significant operational difficulties as a result of the flooding to contact the nearest GRA Taxpayer Service Centre (TSC) or their respective tax offices for support.
According to the Authority, the extension represents a targeted relief measure aimed at helping affected taxpayers meet their obligations without incurring immediate penalties.
The GRA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted tax administration while supporting businesses and individuals affected by the adverse weather conditions.
“The GRA remains committed to maintaining uninterrupted tax administration while supporting businesses during this difficult period and safeguarding the revenue needed for Ghana’s national development,” the statement said.
The announcement comes as parts of Accra and neighbouring communities continue to recover from widespread flooding triggered by heavy rainfall, which disrupted transportation, commercial activities and access to essential services.
