Stanbic Bank Ghana has committed GH¢3 million to support the Black Stars’ campaign at the FIFA World Cup 2026, positioning itself among the leading private-sector backers of the national team ahead of the global tournament to be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The pledge was announced during a presentation ceremony at the Ministry of Finance in Accra.

The bank has structured the funding to combine immediate incentives with performance-based rewards.

An upfront payment of GH¢1.5 million will be disbursed to the playing body as a “bonus on bonus,” while the remaining GH¢1.5 million will be released if the team advances to the knockout stage.

In a move aimed at ensuring social impact, Stanbic Bank indicated that if the Black Stars fall short of reaching the knockouts, the balance will be redirected to a charitable cause.

This process will be managed by the World Cup 2026 Fundraising Committee in collaboration with the team’s management.

Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Kwamina Asomaning, said the bank’s support reflects its broader commitment to national development and unity.

“Football in Ghana is more than a sport; it is a powerful symbol of unity, pride and national identity. It brings together people across regions, generations and backgrounds under one shared hope,” he said.

He added that the Black Stars embody the resilience and potential of the nation, noting that the bank’s role extends beyond finance to supporting national aspirations.

“At Stanbic Bank, we are more than a financial institution; we are a trusted partner in Ghana’s development journey. Today, we extend that commitment to the Black Stars,” Mr. Asomaning said.

He further highlighted that the initiative forms part of a wider strategy to support sports development in Ghana. The bank has previously invested in disciplines such as table tennis, tennis, arm wrestling and swimming.

“These investments reflect our belief in the transformative power of sports to nurture talent, instil discipline and build national pride,” he noted.
