The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has honoured Angela List, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Nguvu Mining Limited, for her exceptional contribution to Africa’s mining industry during a high-profile ceremony marking 27 years of his enstoolment.
Angela List, widely reputed as Africa’s most outstanding female mining entrepreneur, received the recognition at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, in an event held under the theme “Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.”
The distinguished ceremony brought together key national and international leaders, with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, serving as the Special Guest of Honour.
In a moment that celebrated legacy and trailblazing excellence, Angela List was presented with a commemorative gold coin award, alongside notable personalities including President John Dramani Mahama, former Presidents J. A. Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, and Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in recognition of their varied contributions to national security and socio-economic development.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Angela List dedicated the award to the over 3,000 workers employed across the Nguvu Mining Group, which operates in Ghana, Niger, Mali and Liberia. The group comprises Adamus Resources Limited, Northern Ashanti Mining Company Limited, Segala Mining Corporation, Samira Hill Gold Mine, and Poura Resources Limited.
She acknowledged the persistent gender barriers in the male-dominated mining sector, underscoring her determination to change the narrative.
“Nobody gives you an inch. But I’m committed to modelling the way for many women in Africa to become mining entrepreneurs,” she said.
Her remarks echoed the resolve of a pioneer determined not only to succeed, but also to open doors for future generations of women.
Expressing optimism about the future, Angela List said she was confident that “sooner than later, many female CEOs, engineers and other professionals would dazzle in the mining industry.”
The accomplished investor further disclosed that her companies remain committed to job creation and the socio-economic development of mining communities.
“We will achieve this goal by giving more scholarships, building more schools and clinics, and empowering women traders with financial assistance,” she stated.
“We are committed to changing the narrative in the mining industry by making a tangible difference in the lives of the people.”
Angela List’s recognition by the Asantehene follows her receipt of the 2025 Global Power Female Award, an exclusive global honour for highly accomplished women in business. She became the first Ghanaian woman to win the award, which celebrates trailblazers who have reshaped leadership narratives, empowered communities and created enduring change.
The award ceremony was held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and was attended by Heads of State, First Ladies, and global business leaders.
Subsequently, Angela List was inducted into the Global Power Women’s Network, a premier global platform for influence, partnerships and capital for women leaders worldwide.
