The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) through technical cooperation and knowledge sharing following a courtesy visit by Liberian central bank officials to Bank Square in Accra.
The Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Mr. Henry F. Saamoi, led a delegation to the Bank of Ghana on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this year aimed at promoting capacity building, technical cooperation and the exchange of knowledge between the two central banks.
The meeting was chaired by the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu.
During discussions, the Liberian delegation expressed appreciation for the support received from the Bank of Ghana under the MoU framework and highlighted its interest in learning from Ghana’s experience in building and strengthening payment systems infrastructure.
A major focus of the engagement was Ghana’s successful establishment of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), widely regarded as a key pillar of the country’s financial infrastructure.
Officials from the Central Bank of Liberia sought insights into the processes, institutional arrangements and implementation experiences that shaped the development of GhIPSS, as Liberia works to enhance its own payment systems framework.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu reiterated the Bank of Ghana’s readiness to assist Liberia through sustained collaboration, technical support and the sharing of expertise.
She stressed the importance of peer learning, regional cooperation and capacity building in building resilient, innovative and efficient financial systems across the African continent.
The visit underscores the growing partnership between the Bank of Ghana and the Central Bank of Liberia and reflects a shared commitment to advancing financial sector development and strengthening payment systems within the West African sub-region.
