The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange from its artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold trade operations in September 2026, surpassing its monthly target of US$1.4 billion.

According to a statement issued by the Finance and Trading Directorate of GoldBod, the foreign exchange earnings were generated in line with the board’s mandate under Section 2(b) of Act 1140.

The statement indicated that US$701.3 million of the total amount was sold to authorized commercial banks, slightly exceeding the board’s target of US$700 million for supporting foreign exchange market stability.

In addition, US$1.170 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana, significantly above the set target of US$700 million, to support reserve accumulation.

Looking ahead, GoldBod projects that it will generate US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange in October 2026.

Of this amount, US$1 billion is expected to be made available to commercial banks to support stability in the foreign exchange market, while up to US$500 million will be supplied to the Bank of Ghana to aid reserve-building efforts.

The board said the planned allocations will be executed under its newly developed Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework, which is aimed at strengthening transparency, fairness and regulatory compliance in the foreign exchange market.

GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to its statutory mandate of generating foreign exchange for the country and said it would continue to collaborate closely with stakeholders to support Ghana’s economic objectives.
