The East Legon Football Academy has commended the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for supporting youth development through football, particularly by facilitating the participation of young players in international competitions and development programmes.
The Academy said the NPA’s support enabled its young footballers to travel to Denmark for the prestigious Dana Cup and to Spain for scouting trials and training opportunities, providing them with valuable international exposure.
The Academy has participated in the Dana Cup for the past four years and has recorded notable success at the competition.
Its Under-14 boys’ team won the tournament trophy in 2024, while the Under-12 boys’ team followed with another title in 2025.
Beyond the competition in Denmark, the young footballers also travelled to Spain for scout trials with Rush SPF Academy in Madrid, where they took part in training sessions with football academies.
The team also visited the Santiago Bernabéu and Metropolitano Stadiums, the home grounds of Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid respectively, as part of the educational and football development programme.
The Academy expressed its appreciation to the NPA during a visit to the Authority, where it formally recognised the institution’s contribution to the development of its young players.
Receiving the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Esq., commended the Academy for its achievements and praised the young footballers for their courage, discipline and commitment to excellence.
He said the progress of the young players demonstrated the value of providing them with opportunities to compete and train at the international level.
Mr Tameklo noted that the discipline and determination required to compete against teams from other countries were important qualities that could serve the young footballers beyond the sport.
As part of the appreciation, the Academy presented the NPA Chief Executive Officer with a citation and a personalised football jersey, recognising the Authority’s support for its international competitions and development programmes.
The Academy said the assistance had helped expose its players to international competition, professional training environments and scouting opportunities, which could contribute to their long-term development in football.
The NPA’s support forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, through which the Authority contributes to youth development and broader national development initiatives.
The partnership highlights the role of corporate support in providing young athletes with opportunities to develop their skills, gain international exposure and compete on platforms that can open pathways to higher levels of the sport.
