Standard Chartered Ghana names Xorse Godzi as new CEO

by Business Post

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC has appointed Xorse Godzi as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective June 11, 2026, ushering in a leadership transition at one of the country’s oldest banking institutions.

Mr. Godzi succeeds Mansa Nettey, who is retiring after more than 25 years with the bank, including a tenure as CEO that the Board credits with strengthening the lender’s resilience and reinforcing its market position.

In a statement, Board Chairman Ebenezer Twum Asante praised Ms. Nettey for her “sterling service” and described Mr. Godzi’s appointment as timely.

“Xorse brings deep market insight, strong leadership and a bold, future-focused mindset that aligns with the bank’s ambitions,” he said, adding that the new CEO is expected to drive “sustainable, shared growth” and long-term value creation for stakeholders.

Mr. Godzi is a career banker with more than two decades of experience within the Standard Chartered Group. His international exposure includes roles as Director of Global Corporates in London and Head of Commodity Traders and Agribusiness, Africa, based in Johannesburg. More recently, he served as Executive Director and Head of Ghana Corporates, a position in which he has been closely involved in managing the bank’s local operations since 2017.

Industry observers note that his familiarity with both global markets and Ghana’s corporate landscape positions him well to navigate an evolving financial sector marked by digital transformation, regulatory shifts and increasing competition.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Godzi said he was “honoured” to lead the bank at what he described as a defining moment, as the institution marks 130 years of operations in Ghana.

“This is a franchise with an extraordinary legacy and even greater potential,” he said. He pledged to focus on empowering staff, enhancing customer value and positioning the bank for sustainable long-term growth.

Founded in 1896, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC is one of the oldest banks in the country and is listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. It operates as part of the broader Standard Chartered Group, which has a presence in more than 50 markets worldwide.

The leadership change comes at a time when Ghana’s banking sector continues to adjust to post-reform realities, with emphasis on capital strength, innovation and customer-centric growth strategies.

Market watchers will be keen to see how Mr. Godzi leverages the bank’s international network and local expertise to maintain its competitive edge.
