Chief of Staff reaffirms Ghana–China partnership vision

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has reiterated Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with China, emphasizing that the partnership is rooted in mutual respect, friendship, and shared economic advancement.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 executives of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr Debrah praised the positive impact of the Chinese community on Ghana’s development over the years.

According to him, the relationship between the two countries goes beyond commerce and diplomatic engagement, highlighting the importance of cultural ties and collaboration between citizens of both nations. He commended the association for its continued efforts in promoting stronger cooperation and deeper connections between Ghanaian and Chinese communities.

Mr Debrah, who was accompanied by the Legal Advisor to the President, Marietta Brew, congratulated the newly elected leadership of the association, urging them to continue creating opportunities that would further enhance bilateral relations and economic collaboration.

Touching on international trade, he applauded the Chinese government’s policy of granting tariff-free access to exports from African countries, describing it as a clear indication of China’s support for Africa’s economic progress.

He further reiterated the government’s industrialisation agenda, noting that the Mahama administration aims to position Ghana as a major manufacturing and industrial hub within West Africa by focusing on value addition to local resources.

The ceremony also confirmed the re-election of businessman Tang Hong as president of the association, reinforcing his leadership role within Ghana’s Chinese community.
