PPI rises by 1.4% year-on-year in February 2026

The Producer Price Index and Inflation (PPI), which measures the average change over time in prices received by domestic producers for their goods and services, recorded a year-on-year increase of 1.4 percent in February 2026, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has announced.

This means that producer prices in the country rose by 1.4 per cent between February 2025 and February 2026.

On a month-on-month basis, the PPI also increased by 1.3 percent, indicating an average rise in producer prices between January and February 2026.

The February 2026 PPI release covers Industry (excluding Construction), Construction, and Services.

Data from the GSS show that the Industry less Construction sector recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.8 percent in February 2026, representing a marginal decline of 0.1 percentage point from the 1.9 per cent recorded in January 2026.

Month-on-month, industrial producer prices rose by 1.5 percent.

Within this sector, Mining and Quarrying recorded the highest year-on-year inflation rate of 4.1 percent, while Manufacturing registered a deflation of 2.9 percent.

The Electricity and Gas sub-sector recorded inflation of 14.3 percent, while Water Supply, Sewerage and Waste Management posted 9.9 percent.

The Manufacturing sub-sector showed mixed performance. Out of the 23 major manufacturing groups, 18 recorded inflation rates above the sector average of -2.9 percent.

The highest inflation rate was recorded in the Manufacture of textiles (26.7 percent), followed by the Manufacture of beverages (14.8 percent). On the other hand, the Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products recorded the lowest inflation rate at -21.5 percent, reflecting significant price declines in that group.

In the Mining and Quarrying sub-sector, the Extraction of Crude Oil and Natural Gas recorded an inflation rate of -24.0 percent in February 2026.

Mining of metal ores declined slightly from 31.5 percent in January 2026 to 30.0 percent, while Mining Support Service Activities rose to 3.9 percent, up from 3.6 percent the previous month.

The Construction Producer Price Index (C-PPI) recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 0.4 percent in February 2026, down from 1.1 percent in January 2026. Month-on-month, construction prices increased by 0.3 percent.

Among the construction sub-groups, Civil Engineering recorded an inflation rate of 3.6 percent, while Specialised Construction Activities posted 4.4 percent. However, Construction of Buildings recorded a deflation of 7.2 percent year-on-year.

The Services Producer Price Index (S-PPI) recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of -0.8 percent in February 2026, indicating a decline in service producer prices compared to February 2025.

On a month-on-month basis, the sector recorded a modest increase of 0.2 percent.

Within the services sector, Transport and Storage recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of -8.6 percent, while Accommodation and Food Services posted -8.4 percent. Information and Communication remained relatively stable, recording a positive inflation rate of 1.3 percent.

Further analysis showed that in February 2026, Land Transport recorded a producer inflation rate of 2.0 percent, while Water Transport recorded a much higher rate of 31.2 percent.

Postal and Courier Activities also recorded inflation of 9.6 percent.
