The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe Esq., has appealed to local Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), to be future and growth-ready, by listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
Chief Tamakloe was speaking at ZEN Petroleum Retail Excellence Awards in Accra on Friday, February 27, 2026.
According to him, the decision by ZEN to begin processes to list on the GSE, is a welcoming one for Ghanaian OMCs, as the move could spur and deepen the company’s growth, and make it one of the only two locally listed OMCs, – which could encourage others to join.
“For a long time very few Ghanaian companies have gotten to the point where they can list on the Exchange, and I’ve always asked the question how come that Ghanaian companies do not last or one hardly see a Ghanaian company that is 50 years old” he queried.
The decision to list on the Exchange, he said, confirms that ZEN is building a company not for today, but for tomorrow.
Highlighting the growth journey of ZEN, Mr Tamakloe said ZEN Petroleum received its license from the NPA in the early phase of its operation in 2009, entering the market at a time when Ghana’s petroleum downstream was becoming increasingly competitive and structured.
From those humble beginnings, the NPA Chief said ZEN Petroleum had grown into a significant player within the industry.
Chief Tamakloe, commended the policy by ZEN Petroleum to celebrate the performance and discipline of its retailers, a choice which further deepens operational excellence within Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector.
The NPA, he explained, would continue to regulate, oversee, and monitor the downstream petroleum industry to ensure efficiency, safety, consumer protection, fair competition and sustainable growth.

The Awards
In all, some sixteen deserving retailers across the country, were honoured at the Retail Excellence Awards.
The event gathered key petroleum sector players, including board members, partners, customers, staff and the regulator, to celebrate ZEN’s journey of resilience, innovation and purpose for more than a decade within the downstream petroleum sector.
Managing Director of ZEN Petroleum, William Tewiah, addressing dignitaries at the ceremony, described the company’s sixteen years of operation as a journey of curiosity, culminating the ZEN brand into a trusted force.
“In the last sixteen years, our retail business has blossomed into a vibrant and customer-focused network that continues to redefine service delivery standards across the country” Mr Tewiah indicated.
This progress, according to him, did not happen by chance, as it was built on the dedication of the company’s personnel – from the pump attendants who greet customers with a smile at dawn and serve them late into the night, to officers who ensure operational excellence, and leaders who provide direction and inspiration.
