President John Dramani Mahama has outlined major investments in education, health, social protection and infrastructure as part of government’s efforts to improve quality of life and expand social equity.
Presenting the State of the Nation Address, the President said more than 152,000 first-year tertiary students benefited from the No-Fees-Stress Initiative, while over 12.2 million sanitary pads were distributed to schoolgirls in 2025 to reduce absenteeism.
Government will begin construction of 600 basic school blocks—200 each for KG, primary, and JHS—to eliminate schools under trees, while new TVET centres, special needs schools and three new public universities will be built.
In health, President Mahama said government is scaling up domestic financing, raising health spending to GHS 34.7 billion, and clearing historic arrears owed to facilities. The National Health Insurance Scheme’s enrolment has risen to 66 percent, he noted.
He further announced major road works under the Big Push Infrastructure Initiative, including 50 road projects underway and the long-term Accra-Kumasi Expressway project which will create Ghana’s first six-lane expressway.
Social intervention programmes such as LEAP reached 1.5 million people, while the School Feeding Programme now serves over 4.2 million pupils.
“These investments are designed to restore dignity, create opportunity and build a fairer society,” the President said.
