The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., has touted the Authority’s disciplined regulatory regime of the country’s downstream petroleum industry.
He said the disciplined regulation, fair pricing and firm oversight by the NPA are shaping a market that works for investors, operators, and consumers alike.
Mr. Tameklo was speaking as a panel member during a panel discussion on “Driving Domestic Value: Transforming Downstream Markets and Refining’’ at the 2026 Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES).
His contribution drew a clear line between policy, practice, and impact, showing how consistent regulation can strengthen refining capacity, improve distribution, protect supply security, and encourage responsible investment across the value chain.

The discussion also reflected on Africa’s broader downstream opportunity and the urgent need for the continent to refine, utilize, and retain more of its petroleum value within its own economies.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in Ghana has significantly modernized the downstream petroleum sector by implementing digital tracking for bulk road vehicles, enacting strict fuel quality standards, and digitizing regulatory processes leading to reduced smuggling and enhanced consumer protection.
Key achievements include curbing illegal fuel activities, introducing digitalized monitoring systems to sanitize the industry, and winning multiple “Most Connected Agency” and “Industry Leader” awards for efficiency and innovation.
